His older brother, Joe Hammond, also played VFL football with Essendon.
[3] Hammond made a single appearance in 1928 and then returned to Broadford[4] and did not play VFL football for two years.
Hammond reappeared with Hawthorn in 1931, scoring 14 goals in a further 22 appearances (mostly as a centre half forward) over the next couple of seasons.
After a couple of games in the reserves, Hammond made a mid-season move to St. Kilda.
In his first game for St. Kilda Hammond suffered a significant knee injury and never again played VFL football.
