Prior to serving in parliament, she was a Member of the Executive Council (MEC) in the Northern Cape provincial government.
[2] On 1 March 2016, premier Sylvia Lucas appointed her as the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for the provincial department of Sports, Arts and Culture, succeeding Lebogang Motlhaping.
[4] On 1 June 2017, Lucas reversed her decision and Mbinqo-Gigaba was back as MEC for Sports, Arts and Culture.
[6] She is also the provincial chairperson of the African National Congress Youth League.
[9] On 2 July 2019, she was elected chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Basic Education, succeeding Nomalungelo Gina.
