[2] In 1910, Dalton was appointed commissioner of revenue of Patrick County, succeeding George Wood.
He was elected to the role in 1911 and served two years before resigning to run for the Virginia House of Delegates.
[4] In 1923, Dalton was elected as commissioner of revenue for the Mayo district.
His son Grady was a state delegate of Tazewell County.
He was buried in Stuart Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
