[4] Bridgeport was so named on account of there being a toll bridge over the Canadian River at that point.
The town is built on the south side of the valley of the Canadian River, overlooking its floodplain.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.54 square miles (1.4 km2), all land.
The racial makeup of the city was 89.91% White, 0.92% Native American, 1.83% Asian, and 7.34% from two or more races.
