The town is located 359 kilometres (223 mi) north west of the state capital, Melbourne on the Henty Highway.
[1] The area was first settled by Europeans in 1846 when the Brim station was established on the banks of the Yarriambiack Creek.
The railway tracks were converted to standard gauge in 1995 to allow large trains carrying mineral sands from Hopetoun to Hamilton.
[4] Golfers play at the Brim Golf Club at the Recreation Reserve.
[6] A recent addition to the town (2015) is the painting by the Brisbane artist Guido van Helten of a large scale mural on the grain silo which is a prominent feature of the town.
