A member of the Gerindra party, he is currently the deputy chairman of the legislature's fourth commission on agriculture, environmental, forestry, and maritime affairs.
He pursued higher studies at Clark University in Worcester, graduating with a bachelor of arts degree in government and international relations in 2004.

On 3 December 2023, Budi officially converted to Islam under the guidance of the Grand Imam of the Istiqlal Mosque, Nasaruddin Umar, before getting married.
