The east edge of the CDP follows the shore of Penobscot Bay.
The 790-foot (240 m) summit of Mount Battie, part of Camden Hills State Park, is within the CDP.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 3.8 square miles (9.8 km2), all land.
[2] As of the census[5] of 2000, there were 3,934 people, 1,826 households, and 1,028 families residing in the CDP.
37.8% of all households were made up of individuals, and 18.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
