The Campeonato Sul-Brasileiro (English: Southern Brazil Championship), sometimes referred as Torneio da Legalidade, was a regional tournament organized in 1962 by the state federations of Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul.

[1] The competition was designed with the aim of rivaling the Torneio Rio-São Paulo.

It was called the Torneio da Legalidade (English: Legality Tournament) as a way of defending the Brazilian constitution at the time, which provided for the inauguration of João Goulart, then vice president of Brazil, to assume the vacancy after the resignation of Jânio Quadros.

At the time, there was a popular movement that yearned for new elections, contrary to what was stipulated by law.

[2] The competition was played in a round-robin format, where the team that scored the most points became champion.
