Chaand Nagpaul

Nagpaul was born in Kenya to Indian parents, and moved to England at a young age.

He was inspired to become a GP when he attended a practice in inner London while a medical student,[5] although this was not his initial field, having worked for 5 years in various hospital posts after qualifying.

[6] He has been prominent in defending the profession against government policies, as the principal spokesperson for UK general practitioners.

[7] Nagpaul became Chair of the Council of the BMA in June 2017, succeeding Mark Porter.

[11] He was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2015 Birthday Honours for services to primary care.
