Charles Amédée de Maurian (May 21, 1838 – December 2, 1912), also known as Charles Amédée Maurian, was an American amateur chess player and close personal friend of Paul Morphy.
[1]: 3 His father, Charles A. de Maurian, was a judge, and his mother was named Lasthenie Peychaud before her marriage.
[2] He was a classmate of Morphy at Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama, and the two remained close friends thereafter.
[4] Maurian moved to Paris, France in 1890, where he continued to live until his death on December 2, 1912.
