[3] In 1923 during a tour of Great Britain and Europe whilst a serving police officer he took part in eight tournaments.
[1] In July 1923 he took part in the Wimbledon Championships where he reached the third round of the men's singles before losing to Donald Greig.
[1] Charles took up an appointment with the Indian Imperial Police Service, joining as an Assistant Superintendent on 22 November 1915.
[6] He was then appointed to the Indian Army Reserve of Officers between July 1918 and August 1919, remaining throughout in India.
