Nearly all of the township is in the drainage basin of the Thornapple River, which flows through the northern part.
As of the 2000 United States Census,[1] there were 1,778 people, 648 households, and 517 families residing in the township.
There were 670 housing units at an average density of 18.5 per square mile (7.2/km2).
There were 648 households, out of which 34.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 71.6% were married couples living together, 4.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 20.2% were non-families.
17.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
