In 1925, he became interested in the Farmers Hardware Company, Inc, and a year later he became its manager.

In 1918, he was elected to the New York State Assembly as a Republican, representing Saratoga County.

Their three daughters were Dorothy Helen, Ruth Ellen, and Elizabeth Jane.
