Riggs attended St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

At Aquinas, Riggs was teammates with Lamarcus Joyner, Brandon Linder, Giovani Bernard, James White, Dezmen Southward, Bobby Hart, Duron Carter, Marcus Roberson, and Rashad Greene.

On February 5, 2014, Florida head coach Will Muschamp confirmed that Riggs would spend his final season of eligibility at another school following his graduation from the university.
