The team, which will play in the Southern League, will be the Double-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves major-league club.

In May 2023, the city council of Columbus supported Mayor Skip Henderson's efforts to attract a minor league team to the city.

[1] The city later approved a $50-million renovation to Synovus Park to bring the stadium up to minor league standards.

[2][3] In January 2024, the Mississippi Braves announced that they would be relocating to Columbus, Georgia, and begin play in the 2025 season.
