She also directs the Joint Preservation Center and leads the Sports Medicine program at the Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Health Care System.

As a lieutenant, she led a 170-soldier signals intelligence platoon in Germany, and later managed the educational programs of a brigade-sized unit.

Chu attained the rank of Captain and commanded an imaging intelligence unit at Fort Liberty, North Carolina.
