The hotel was opened in 2003 by Prime Minister, Shukri Ghanem[citation needed] [More information required].

On 27 January 2015 ten people, including five foreigners from France, Italy, Turkey, United Kingdom[2] and the American Crucible LLC security contractor David Berry,[3] were killed in a gun attack.

[4] Prior to this attack, six people were injured in a car bomb explosion near the hotel.

[5] A group of militants allegedly affiliated with the Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack.
