Costa Rica competed at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia.

Previously, Claudia had won Costa Rica's first ever Olympic gold medal at the 1996 Games.

[1] Eight years earlier, Claudia's sister Silvia Poll won the silver medal in Women's 200 meter freestyle at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea.
