On December 23, Cyclone Carmen passed just west of Rodrigues, producing heavy rainfall and wind gusts of 216 km/h (134 mph).

Tracking generally westward, Georgette struck northern Madagascar on January 15 as a tropical storm.

It quickly reached open waters while gradually intensifying, executing a loop off of eastern Mozambique.

[4] On January 21, Cyclone Henriette passed just east of Rodrigues, producing 165 km/h (103 mph) wind gusts.

The winds wrecked most of the island's crops and destroyed many houses while also causing severe erosion.
