The station consists of one ground-level side platform serving a single bi-directional track.

It became part of JR West on April 1, 1987 when Japan National Railways was privatized.

Until 2011, Takaohara Ski Resort was adjacent to the west side of the station, and it used to be crowded with skiers.

The ski resort was closed on March 20, 2015, and all station facilities were discontinued at that time.
