He played college football for the Vanderbilt Commodores and was selected 119th overall in the fourth round of the 2009 NFL draft by the Chicago Bears.
While playing at Vanderbilt, he garnered First-team All-SEC honors from the Associated Press in his sophomore and junior years.

On October 24, 2010, he intercepted a pass from Donovan McNabb of the Washington Redskins and ran it back 54 yards for a touchdown.
