D. Richard Hipp

Dwayne Richard Hipp (born April 9, 1961) is an American software developer and the primary author of SQLite as well as the Fossil SCM.

[3] Hipp was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, on April 9, 1961, but grew up in the suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia.

He earned a Doctor of Philosophy from Duke in 1992 and, finding the academic market for PhDs saturated with what he believed to be better qualified candidates, started his own software development consulting company.

[5] He designed SQLite in the spring of 2000 while working for General Dynamics on contract with the United States Navy.

[5] He and his wife moved to their present home in Charlotte, North Carolina in August 1995.
