He has been a distinguished research fellow of the Institute for Information Science at the Academia Sinica in Taipei, Taiwan since 1998.

More than in academia, he had been an advisory committee member of National Security Council (Taiwan) from 2016 to 2020.

After holding a faculty position at Northwestern University for 20 years, he moved to the Academia Sinica in 1998.

[3] He is editor in chief of the International Journal of Computational Geometry and Applications.

[4][5] He was awarded the German-Taiwanese Friendship Medal by Michael Zickerick, the Director General of the German Institute Taipei, in May 2014.
