Daniel Woodrow Bird Sr. (July 6, 1912 – November 16, 1995) was an American politician who served in both houses of the Virginia General Assembly.
He is best remembered for his pioneering work in establishing community colleges in Virginia which became a model for the rest of the United States.
In that position he played an instrumental role in establishing Virginia's statewide system of community colleges; a success that became a national model.
[1] In the 1950s Bird served as chairman of the Virginia Senate Education Committee during the era of desegregation in the United States.
