Damien Sandras is known in the free software community due to his work on GNOME, more specifically on Ekiga, the leading open-source softphone for the Linux desktop.
He is one of the founders of FOSDEM, an event dedicated to free software developers in Europe.
[2] Ekiga was supported by the Free Software Foundation and more specifically by Richard Stallman as an alternative to the proprietary Skype.
Stallman's e-mail signature contained a mention to the softphone during a few years: Skype: No way!
[4] He is now leading Be IP, a startup dealing with enterprise open-source VoIP software.
