Dan Gawrecki (born 23 December 1943 in Frýdek) is a Czech historian focusing mostly on Silesian history.
After graduating from the secondary school in Ostrava-Poruba (1957-1960), he studied at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Olomouc (history-Russian).
In 1969, he received his PhD (for his thesis Bund der Deutschen und Sudetendeutsche Partei) and in 1977 he defended his thesis German Defence Associations in the Habsburg Monarchy and Czechoslovakia 1880-1938 and received the degree of CSc.
He was employed at the Silesian Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic (1968-1993), where he was director from 1987-1991.
In 1997, he received his habilitation at the Faculty of Philosophy of Comenius University in Bratislava with the thesis Political and national conditions in Těšín Silesia 1918-1938.
