Cassani completed his PhD in pure Mathematics in 2006 at University of Milan, supervised by B. Ruf.
From 2006 to 2007, he undertook a postdoctoral position at the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences, University of British Columbia.
In 2012, he became a senior research fellow at the Department of Science and High Technology, Università degli Studi dell'Insubria.
