Harf was born in Visalia, California and later moved to Orlando, Florida where he grew up on Lake Willis and learned to water ski.
Harf won the Transworld Wakeboarding Rookie of the Year award in 2000 and is a four-time X Games champion.

McPherson continued to live on the property, along with O'Brien and their respective families, until he lost his life to cancer in 2007.
