Fleming was born in Jackson Heights, Queens, New York, and went to high school in Mahopac.
[1] Fleming was selected in the third round of the 1990 Major League Baseball draft by the Seattle Mariners.
He won a career high 17 games, including nine consecutive, for the Mariners in his rookie season of 1992.
On 7 July 1995, he was traded by the Mariners to the Kansas City Royals for Bob Milacki.
