David Boyes Smith (19 November 1833 - 3 June 1889) was deputy surgeon general of the Indian Medical Service (IMS).
He studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh, where he was president of the Royal Medical Society.
He was civil surgeon of Delhi, Mussoorie, Patna, Dacca, and Howrah, and became the first Sanitary Commissioner with the Government of Bengal in 1863.
When he left India in 1885 he was elected professor of Military Medicine and Tropical Diseases, at the Army Medical School, Netley.
