De Luz, California

De Luz (Spanish for "Of Light") is an unincorporated community in San Diego County, California.

The region is approximately 12 miles (19 km) east of the Pacific Ocean and lies at the southern end of the Santa Ana Mountains.

De Luz was informally founded in the 1870s when homesteaders arrived in the area to establish cattle farms.

De Luz was briefly accessible by train in the late-19th century due to the California Southern Railroad traversing the town on its route north that connected with the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway near San Bernardino.

A much smaller post office, reportedly only 10 square feet (0.93 m2), was constructed on higher ground following the flood.
