Deepak Kumar Lal (1940 – 30 April 2020) was an Indian-born British liberal economist, author, professor and consultant.
[10] From 1963 to 1966, overlapping with his time at Oxford, he was a junior member of India's diplomatic corps, the Indian Foreign Service, but resigned.
[1] The 1989 American Economic Review directory listed his research interests as "North-South issues, labor markets in developing countries".
[14] In 1993, he became the James S. Coleman Professor of International Development Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he remained until his death in 2020.
From 1999 onward, he served as a distinguished visiting fellow at the National Council for Economic Research in New Delhi.
