Located in Bangalore, its main function is the research and development of technologies and products in the areas of life support, medical and physiological protection systems for the Indian Armed Forces.
[1] The Defence Bioengineering and Electromedical Laboratory was formed in April 1976 by bringing together the Aero Electroengineering Unit of Aeronautical Development Establishment and the Electromedical Instrumentation Division of the Electronics and Radar Development Establishment, located nearby.
Since 23 June 1992, the facility has been functioning at its own independent premises located at the Aeronautical Development Establishment campus.
