2019 Delhi hotel fire

[1][2][3][4] Poorly enforced regulations lead to thousands of deaths in fires across India every year.

For comparison, New York City has eight times as many firefighters, but has less than half of Delhi's population.

The Hotel Arpit Palace passed a fire safety check in December 2017.

[7] The fire quickly spread due to wooden panels on the walls and floor of the hotel, and caused heavy smoke in the hallways.

[7] They reviewed certificates issued to more than 1,500 hotels in India's tourist hubs in an effort to limit the number of casualties.
