She supported cultural integration for second-generation immigrants, including assisting them in regularising their legal status to enable them to access their rights to education and employment.
Deqa moved to Toronto in Canada, in the early 2000s and worked as a civil servant, providing social services to vulnerable Canadian citizens for close to 10 years.
In her capacity as minister, she, inter alia, led Somalia in the ratification process of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).
[4] She was also part of the advisory team for the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) study on Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment in Fragile and Conflict-Affected Situations.
Deqa Yasin's tenure, that the MoWHRD conducted a Rapid Assessment of the Status of Children with Disabilities in Somalia, released on 28 September 2020.
In carrying out this Assessment, the MoWHRD sought to understand the key barriers to the participation of children with disabilities in society, including their access to the services they are entitled to enjoy.
