Desulfosporosinus is a genus of strictly anaerobic, sulfate-reducing bacteria, often found in soil.
The type species D. orientis was isolated in 1959[3] with the proposed name Desulfovibrio orientis, and was later assigned to the genus Desulfotomaculum.
[4] Based on 16S rRNA gene sequence data Desulfotomaculum orientis was reclassified as Desulfosporosinus orientis in 1997.
The currently accepted taxonomy is based on the List of Prokaryotic names with Standing in Nomenclature (LPSN)[18] and National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI)[19] D. orientis (Adams & Postgate 1959) Stackebrandt et al. 1997 D. metallidurans Panova et al. 2021 D. acididurans Sanchez-Andrea et al. 2015 D. acidiphilus Alazard et al. 2012 D. youngiae Lee, Romanek & Wiegel 2009 D. auripigmenti corrig.
