[6] In 1993, ffrench was commissioned by the Christchurch City Council to design a wall hanging to commemorate the centenary of women's suffrage in New Zealand.
The hanging showed elements of women's lives between 1893 and 1993 and was embroidered by 100 members of the Canterbury Embroiderers' Guild, over a period of eight months.
It was exhibited at the Robert McDougall Art Gallery and then installed in the Christchurch Town Hall.
[5] Also in 1993, ffrench worked on a land sculpture at Lookout Point in Oamaru shaped as a huge Chesterfield sofa and planted with wild yarrow and chamomile.
[5] Enduring themes in ffrench's work were women's strength, both physical and mental, and aspects of passivity and aggression in society.
