[1][2][4] Didace Kiganahe was born on January 15, 1965, in the Commune of Buganda, Province of Cibitoke, Burundi to parents who were farmers.
He furthered his education at the University of Burundi, earning a degree in political science.
In 2005, he was appointed Minister of Defense by President Pierre Nkurunziza, a position he held until 2010.

He was accused of ordering the military to use excessive force against protesters, resulting in numerous deaths and injuries.
