Born in Macaé, Rio de Janeiro, Diego began his senior career with Barcelona-RJ in 2017.

[2] Back to Resende, Diego again featured sparingly and moved on loan to Série D side Portuguesa-RJ on 13 April 2019.

[4] On 13 July 2020, after playing in the 2020 Campeonato Carioca for Resende, Diego signed a permanent contract with Boa Esporte.

On 2 December 2021, after achieving promotion to the Série A as a starter, Diego renewed his contract until the end of 2023.

Diego scored his first goal in the main category of Brazilian football on 11 September 2022, netting the opener in a 1–1 home draw against Flamengo.
