Douglas L. Peterson

Douglas L. Peterson is the former president and chief executive officer of S&P Global[1] (NYSE: SPGI),[2] formerly McGraw Hill Financial.

In November 2024 Peterson retired from the position of CEO, with S&P Global Ratings President Martina Cheung replacing him.

[5][6] Peterson was raised in Santa Fe, New Mexico, received his undergraduate degree from Claremont McKenna College and earned his MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 1985.

[9] Early in his tenure as CEO, Peterson divested non-core businesses such as McGraw Hill Construction and J.D.

[16] Peterson has overseen investments in the areas of technological innovation, analytics, and environmental, social and governance (ESG) data.

[29] In 2021, he led a workstream of the G7’s Impact Taskforce focused on mobilizing private capital by advocating for globally consistent standards to measure, value, and account for sustainability.

[31] Peterson has previously served as Co-Chair of the Stewardship Board of the Platform for Shaping the Future of Cities at the World Economic Forum.

[34] Peterson is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation's Systemic Resolution Advisory Committee.
