Duane C. Butcher

Duane Clemens Butcher (born 1965) is a retired American diplomat who last served as the Executive Director of the Bureau of African Affairs at the Department of State.

As Chargé d'affaires in Bucharest, Butcher has worked to strengthen bilateral relations[1][2] across a wide range of issues,[3] promoting the rule of law and judicial independence,[4] advocating for U.S. companies[5] and an improved business climate,[6] and deepening military cooperation.

Butcher received the National Order of the Star of Romania, the country's highest civil award, July 16, 2014.

[8] The Bucharest School of Political Science and Administration awarded Butcher an honorary doctoral degree.

Prior to his service in Tashkent, DCM Butcher was Consul General in Hamburg, Germany from 2004 to 2007.
