Duane Silverstein is the Executive Director of Seacology, a nonprofit organization based in Berkeley, California.
Prior to heading Seacology, Silverstein served as Executive Director of the Goldman Fund, a San Francisco based philanthropic foundation.
[2] Seacology operated as a volunteer-only organization until 1999 when Silverstein was brought on as its first employee and the group's headquarters was relocated to Berkeley, not far from his residence.
For more than two decades he has served as Executive Director of the organization, which seeks to preserve island ecosystems, endemic species, and local cultures.
[10] In 2024 in a ceremony at the Wharton School of Business on behalf of Seacology, Silverstein accepted the $250,000 Lipman Family Prize for outstanding vision, inspiration and impact.
