East Sonora is a census-designated place (CDP) in Tuolumne County, California, United States.

The racial makeup of East Sonora was 2,129 (94.0%) White, 7 (0.3%) African American, 16 (0.7%) Native American, 32 (1.4%) Asian, 1 (0.0%) Pacific Islander, 35 (1.5%) from other races, and 46 (2.0%) from two or more races.
1,338 people (59.0% of the population) lived in owner-occupied housing units and 813 people (35.9%) lived in rental housing units.
There were 1,145 housing units at an average density of 444.1 per square mile (171.5/km2).
The racial makeup of the CDP was 93.98% White, 0.82% African American, 0.48% Native American, 0.67% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 0.96% from other races, and 3.03% from two or more races.
