East Whittier (pronunciationⓘ) is an unincorporated community in Los Angeles County, California, United States.
For statistical purposes, the United States Census Bureau has defined this community as a census-designated place (CDP).
The name was changed from East La Mirada in 2012, likely due to its precise location in relation to the city of Whittier.
[3][4] The previous delineation of East Whittier CDP occurred during the 1960 census, when the area recorded a population of 19,884.
[6] According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 1.1 square miles (2.8 km2), all land.
There were 3,391 housing units at an average density of 3,109.6 per square mile (1,200.6/km2), of which 2,125 (64.5%) were owner-occupied, and 1,170 (35.5%) were occupied by renters.
According to the United States Census Bureau, East Whittier has a median household income of $68,110, with 5.1% of the population living below the federal poverty line.
In the California State Legislature, East Whittier is in the 32nd Senate District, represented by Republican Kelly Seyarto, and in the 57th Assembly District, represented by Democrat Sade Elhawary.
