Edith Alexandra White

In 1919 the family moved again to Queensland where, in time, she trained to be a nurse at Brisbane General Hospital.

[1] In 1937 she moved to the Northern Territory working at different places including the state capital of Darwin.

She was eventually released from essential civilian work to become the matron of the 119th Australian General Hospital in June 1941.

[3][4] White was later to remark that her nurses worked without a break for 36 hours as they dealt with the resulting casualties.

[1] In the chapel of Tamworth Base Hospital she is included on an honour role recording her contribution.
