Eduardo Jiménez de Aréchaga

H. E. Eduardo Jiménez de Aréchaga (Montevido, 1918 – Punta del Este, 5 April 1994) was an Uruguayan professor, jurist, and President of the International Court of Justice.

[1][2][3] Eduardo Jiménez de Aréchaga was born in Montevido in 1918, and received a Doctor of Law degree from the University of Uruguay in 1942.

[1][2] Jiménez de Aréchaga held a seat on the United Nations' International Law Commission from 1960 to 1969, serving as President in 1963.

[1][4] He was the president of the ad hoc court of arbitration that was established by Canada and France to decide the 1992 Canada–France Maritime Boundary Case.

[1][2][3] Aréchaga died in a car accident in Punta del Este, Uruguay, on April 5, 1994.
