[1] The following year, Laboran was part of the maiden Papua New Guinean team to compete at the 1962 British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Perth, Western Australia, where he finished 11th in the high jump clearing the bar at 6 ft 4 in (1.93 m).
[1] Twelve months later at the inaugural South Pacific Games in Suva, Fiji, Edward easily won gold in the high jump.
With a jump of 6 ft 3 in (1.91 m), he finished a full ten centimeters higher than the silver medal winner, Tevita Kabakoro from Fiji.
