The substation was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999.
Exterior materials used were face brick, rounded ceramic roof tiles, and steel roller shutter doors.
As at 15 March 2001, The Randwick substation is a rare, substantial, attractive and well detailed building of state significance, being representative of the interwar Mediterranean style.
