Elkinsville is an unincorporated community in Van Buren Township, Brown County, in the U.S. state of Indiana.
[3] It was once a thriving farming village, but was evacuated during the construction of nearby Lake Monroe Reservoir by eminent domain in 1964.
[5] A post office was established at Elkinsville in 1860, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1941.
[6] The town was acquired via eminent domain for the building of Lake Monroe Reservoir in 1964, but later it was discovered that a mistake in elevation estimates meant that the town would not be flooded.
