Emanuel Limnell

After his mother's death, when he was seven, he ran away from home and spent five years living with an old village school teacher.

In 1784, thanks to assistance from Admiral Carl Tersmeden, he was able to go to Stockholm and find employment in the stage decoration workshop at the Royal Swedish Opera.

There, his work drew the attention of Johan Gottlob Brusell [sv] and Louis Jean Desprez, who took him on as a personal apprentice.

On the advice of Desprez and the sculptor, Johan Tobias Sergel, he used the model school at the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts to improve his skills and promote himself.

His works may be seen at the Nationalmuseum,[1] the Norrköpings konstmuseum [sv][2] and the Uppsala University Library.
